Conservation is Powered by Community

Conservation is long-term work, built through many small acts of care and community support over time.

From June 8-12, we’re asking our community to come together to raise $5,000 in support of conservation across Santa Barbara County — helping unlock an additional $5,000 matching gift!

Come back daily to track our live fundraising progress, and follow us on Instagram or Facebook to explore each day’s conservation focus!

Our Match Sponsors

This matching gift was made possible through the generosity of Jim Deacon and Susan Christol-Deacon, longtime supporters of the Land Trust who share a deep commitment to protecting the landscapes, wildlife, and agricultural heritage of Santa Barbara County.

Their $5,000 matching gift helps double the impact of every donation made during 5 DAYS OF CONSERVATION — strengthening conservation efforts for future generations.

In Their Own Words

What inspired you to first support The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County?
The Land Trust connected us to a community of like-minded people intent on preserving the beauty and natural environment of Santa Barbara County. We have been drawn to the intentionality with which the Land Trust approaches its efforts.

Over the years, what has been the most meaningful to you about being part of our community of supporters?
Being part of the Land Trust family allows us to feel like we are contributing to keeping our local ecosystems vibrant and healthy.

How does giving to The Land Trust fit into your personal values or vision for the region?
We feel privileged to live here, and supporting the Land Trust was a way to ensure that land here is preserved for future generations. Henry David Thoreau believed that “in wildness is the preservation of the world.” We do too.

In your view, what has been the most significant impact of the Land Trust’s work over the years?
The Land Trust has identified key natural and agricultural resources and moved with speed and perseverance to saving land in such a way to responsibly preserve key precious habitats. The work with agricultural interests is essential to its efforts.

Are there particular projects, places, or programs that have touched you personally?
We live on the Gaviota Coast, and we will always have a special place in our hearts for the Arroyo Hondo Preserve. The educational programs there are central to ensuring that future generations will become passionate advocates for land preservation.

When you think about the future of Santa Barbara County, what role do you hope your giving plays?
We hope we can inspire others to become advocates for the work of the Land Trust, and hope our material support inspires other in the community to support conservation.

How do you hope your gift inspires others in the community to support conservation?
We hope others will assess the future of land in Santa Barbara, and join us in supporting the Land Trust.

Can you share a favorite memory or experience you’ve had connected to the Land Trust?
Whether it’s hiking or birding at Arroyo Hondo, learning about sustainable practices at local ranches, or visiting local beaches, we always come away from Land Trust-sponsored experiences feeling enriched and privileged to explore the gems of Santa Barbara County.

Are there any messages or words of encouragement you’d like to share with other donors or supporters?
You will never regret being part of the efforts by the Land Trust to preserve key precious habitats for future generations.
