Next Generation of Conservationists Internship Description

Under the direction of the Director of Membership and Community Engagement, this part-time intern supports efforts to maintain and expand membership & outreach for the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County.

Next Generation Outreach Program

A major focus of this internship is helping the Land Trust launch a new effort to reach out to and engage a younger audience than it generally has in the past. Target audiences will include land owners, people involved in farming and ranching, families of current members, other conservation and outdoor recreation groups, college students and faculty, and foundation trustees. A specific work plan will be prepared, and will include outreach through social media, special events of interest to young people and families, presentations at meetings and events sponsored by other organizations, assembling a “Next Gen” advisory group and other components.

General Membership Support

The intern will also provide support in organizing membership outreach and events. This work may include drafting outreach material (e.g. content for website, social media and mailings), assembling mailings, generating thank you letters, and general office work.

Skills and Qualifications

The intern should have a personal interest in the conservation mission of the Land Trust and experience with or a demonstrated capacity to learn:

· Use of donor database software

· Organizing volunteers and community outreach programs

· Use of social media

· Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills

· Commitment to teamwork and ability to work creatively and independently

Work Hours and Stipend

The internship is considered a temporary, non-staff position. The intern will be asked to work 30-40 hours per month, and will need to be available for set hours in our Santa Barbara office and to help with occasional evening and weekend events. Some of the work can be performed at home. The intern will receive a $400/month stipend. Travel cost reimbursement provided for activities outside of the office.

Requirements

· Willing and available to commit to a six month internship

· Have transportation available to work and events

· Ability to work outdoors

· Ability to work weekends ocassionally
