On Friday, August 23rd, Land Trust Conservation Circle members enjoyed a tour of special properties around Carpinteria. We stopped first above the debris basin and orchards at Rancho Monte Alegre to learn about how agriculture and open space can act as a crucial buffer to protect residential areas from mudslides and fires. Other stops included the California Tropics packing house, where we learned about the history of challenges California farmers face, and lunch generously hosted by Scott and Susan Van Der Kar. The tour finished with a stop at the site of the Land Trust’s latest success story – the Rincon Bluffs Preserve! Many thanks to Bill Hallier for the excellent photos and to all others for coming along. We hope everyone had a delightful day!
